ADR-57 — ADRs Must Be Written in English

Status: Decided (2026-04-14)

Context: ADRs are reviewed by the Expert Committee which uses English-language LLMs (Gemini, Mistral). French ADRs require mental translation during review, reducing accuracy and increasing the risk of misinterpretation. Additionally, the codebase, variable names, and technical documentation are in English.

Decision: All new ADRs MUST be written in English. Existing French ADRs will be migrated to English progressively (not a blocking priority).

Invariants: - New ADRs from ADR-56 onwards MUST be in English - Committee review artifacts MUST reference ADRs by number and quote invariants in English - Code comments referencing ADRs remain in the language of the surrounding code (typically English) - Existing French ADRs (ADR-1 through ADR-55) remain valid and enforceable in French until migrated
